This is the privacy policy for the Android application ITNewsAggregator (Google Play package no.itsamleren.itnewsaggregator). The app is published on Google Play by the developer account VassDev. The legal entity and data controller is Vassbrekke AS. The app is the companion to the website IT-samleren (https://itsamleren.no).

What the app is

ITNewsAggregatorfetches public RSS and Atom feeds from Norwegian and international IT media, shows headlines and summaries, and opens the full article on the publisher's website. You need no account. There are no ads, no analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, and no sale of personal data.

Data we do not collect

• No user accounts, names, emails or phone numbers
• No advertising identifiers and no ads
• No analytics, profiling or crash-reporting SDKs
• No contacts, photos, microphone, camera or precise GPS
• No developer backend that stores reader profiles

Data processed on your device

• Language and region preferences. Stored locally so the app remembers Norsk/English and Norge/Global.
• Manual-override flags. Stored locally so automatic country defaults are not re-applied after you choose yourself.
• Cached article images. Kept in the OS/app cache for faster scrolling.

Clearing app storage or uninstalling the app removes this data.

Network requests

RSS feeds

The app downloads public feeds from the outlets listed in the app (for example digi.no and TechCrunch). Those servers receive your device's IP address and standard HTTP headers, the same way a browser would when loading a feed. That contact is required for the app to show news.

Opening an article

When you tap a story, your browser or system handler loads the publisher's page. That site's privacy policy applies to the visit.

Approximate country for defaults

On startup, if you have not set language or region yourself, the app may request a country code over HTTPS from a short IP-to-country lookup (for example Cloudflare trace, ipwho.is or ipapi.co). Those services see your IP because any HTTPS request includes it.

• Purpose: outside Norway → English interface and Global feeds; Norway (and Svalbard/Bouvet) → Norwegian interface and Norwegian feeds.
• Not used for advertising, profiling or continuous tracking.
• Not GPS: the app has no location permission.
• If the lookup fails, the app uses the phone language.

Article images

Thumbnails load from URLs in the feeds (publisher or CDN). Those hosts can see your IP when images load. You can use the app without relying on those images if the device blocks them.

Purpose and legal basis

Local preferences are processed so the app works as you configured it. Network requests to publishers and the optional country lookup are processed to deliver the news reader and sensible defaults. The legal basis is legitimate interest, GDPR Art. 6(1)(f). We consider that the interest in a working, correctly localised reader outweighs the privacy impact, because we store no account, sell no data and do not profile you. Email you send us is processed on the same basis so we can reply.

Who can access the data

Vassbrekke AS does not run a user database for this app and does not sell or share personal data with third parties for advertising or analytics. Feed hosts, image CDNs and (when used) the IP-to-country service see the IP that is inherent to the request you make. Data are disclosed only if we are legally obliged to.

Transfers outside the EEA

We do not transfer personal data out of the EEA ourselves. Your device may contact publisher, CDN or lookup servers that are outside the EEA. That contact is between your device and those operators.

Retention

• On-device preferences and cache: until you clear storage or uninstall.
• Country lookup: used once at startup for defaults; not kept as a profile.
• Email to us: deleted when the enquiry is finished.

Children

ITNewsAggregator is a general-audience IT news reader. It is not directed at children under 13.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you may ask for access, rectification, erasure, restriction, to object to legitimate-interest processing, and data portability where applicable. Email contact@vassbrekke.no. We normally reply within 30 days. Because there is no account, we usually cannot link a network request to you unless you tell us more.

Complaint to the Data Protection Authority

You may complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet). We appreciate if you contact us first.

Security

Feed and lookup traffic uses HTTPS. Because we store almost nothing on our side, there is little that can go astray.

Changes

If we change how the app processes data, we update this page and the date at the top.
